With a total budget of €3.8 billion allocated for a sevenyear period (2014-2020), the Internal Security Fund (ISF) promotes the implementation of the EU’s Internal Security Strategy, law enforcement cooperation and the management of the Union’s external borders.

The ISF is divided into two different instruments: 1) ISF Borders and Visa and 2) ISF Police – cooperation, preventing and combating crime, and crises management.

The objective of the ISF Borders and Visa is to ensure that the borders of the Union are secure while facilitating legitimate travel. All EU States except Ireland and the United Kingdom participate in the implementation of the ISF-Borders instrument. The four Schengen Associated Countries (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland) also participate in the ISF Borders and Visa instrument.

On the other hand, the ISF Police seeks to ensure a high level of security within the EU – the focus being combating crime and managing risks and crises. All EU States except Denmark and the United Kingdom participate in the implementation of the ISF Police.

Throughout the year, a number of different funding opportunities are made available through calls for applicants under this FundEntities which are eligible for these calls include public bodies, non-profit-making private entities, and profit-making entities. The list of eligible entities may vary from one call to another.
