EU funding promotes a more digital and a greener Europe. The Digital Europe Programme is an EU funding programme focused on bringing digital technology to businesses, individuals and public administrations.

Digital infrastructure and technology are transforming the 21st century and our daily lives. New technology helps us communicate, improve scientific discovery and find solutions to environmental issues. The COVID-19 pandemic has also showed how crucial it is for Europe to be independent of systems and solutions that originate elsewhere.

Digital Europe has an overall budget of €7.5 billion. In practical terms, this funding will benefit citizens and enterprises by contributing to improved cybersecurity, the use of digital technologies in areas such as health and the cultural sector and the uptake of digital and related technologies by enterprises.

SEM assisted the Malta Information Technology Agency (MITA) to apply for Digital Europe funding to run a Maltese National Coordination Centre and offer financial support to third parties in implementing cybersecurity solutions. SEM is also currently providing support to MITA in the implementation of this project.
