Improving the quality of life of deprived communities in urban localities
Local Councils in urban localities can apply for the Small Grant Scheme (SGS) which has been launched last February by the Local Government Division. This scheme is co-funded by the Norwegian Funding Mechanism and it seeks to improve the quality of life of deprived communities in urban localities.
In this regard, the SGS will fund projects satisfying one or more of the below objectives:
- Supporting physical, economic, and social regeneration of deprived communities
- Regenerating public open spaces and public housing
- Revitalising urban towns ensuring better infrastructure
- Enhancing the environmental aspects of deprived localities
Only Local Councils in 21 urban localities are eligible to apply – some examples include Fgura, Floriana, Senglea and Vittoriosa. Other entities such as NGOs established as a legal person in Malta can participate as project partners.
The maximum grant rate is 85% of the total eligible expenditure which may reach a maximum of €100,000. The deadline is May 31, 2021.
