9th May is Europe Day – here’s what’s on in Malta and Gozo

Europe Day, celebrated annually on the 9th May, marks the anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, a vision for peace and unity in post-war Europe. The European Parliament Office in Malta will be marking Europe Day with a series of activities for the public in cooperation with other local entities.
Europe Day in Gozo – Saturday 3rd May
The first activity is being held this weekend, on Saturday 3rd May, at Villa Rundle Gardens in Victoria from 10am onwards. Organised by Europe Direct Gozo, the event involves a number of EU information and service providers – including the European Parliament Office – that will be present to share insights about their roles, and the services they offer. There will also be presentations about a number of ongoing EU-funded projects while the Visual and Performing Arts School Gozo will present a multidisciplinary performance featuring drama, dance, visual art, and music, including a live ensemble performance.
This event is being held in collaboration with the Ministry for Gozo and the Cultural Heritage Directorate, as part of the Gozo Spring Fair activities.

European Village at the University of Malta – Friday 9th May
Also on 9 May, from 9:00am to 3:00pm, the University of Malta Quadrangle will host the annual ‘European Village’, organised by JEF Malta together with the European Studies Organisation and the Institute of European Studies, as well as other student organisations, university departments and EU-related entities will once more set up a ‘European Village’ with stands on European cultures and traditions as well as EU-related initiatives taking place on- and off-campus. At 12 noon a Panel Discussion with MEPs will take place where participants will discuss the priorities tackled since last year’s European elections.
All these events are open to the public and to the media. Celebrating Europe Day is not just about honouring history; it’s about recognising the progress Europe made as a continent and renewing our commitment to working together for a better, more united future. It is also an opportunity for citizens, especially young people, to engage with and know more about the European project.
