New collective agreement for 33,000 public service employees
33,000 public service employees will benefit from improved conditions thanks to a new collective agreement.
UHM Voice of the Workers welcomes this agreement, in which it played a key role during negotiations. The agreement will take effect on January 1 of next year and will cover the period until 2030.
This agreement provides increases beyond what public service employees have already received on a sectoral level.
The signing took place during a ceremony held at Castille. CEO Josef Vella and Director Mario Sacco signed the agreement on behalf of UHM.
UHM extends its gratitude to L-Orizzont’s newsroom for providing these photos, as an official from the Office of the Prime Minister refused to grant access to UHM’s portal, Voice of the Workers Weekly, to capture images of this ceremony.
UHM CEO Josef Vella expressed regret that the celebration of this agreement, which impacts thousands of families, was marred by this behaviour towards the Union’s portal.
It is worth clarifying that this portal holds the necessary accreditation from the Department of Information; however, for some reason, this press card was never delivered. This has been confirmed through correspondence dating back two years, when the initial application was submitted, as well as recent correspondence requesting the renewal of the said accreditation for the next two years.
