Despite the word itself, this quality is not restricted to what we describe as &#8220;the professions,&#8221; which are typically careers that require a great deal of studying and that bring in high salaries.\u00a0<span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Many cashiers, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebalance.com\/janitor-career-information-525759\">skilled workers<\/a>\u202fand\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebalance.com\/server-job-description-526232\">waitresses<\/a>, to mention just a few,\u202fcan demonstrate a high level of professionality, although\u202fthese occupations require minimal training and such employees often end up barely making ends meet. On the other hand, many\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebalance.com\/doctor-career-information-526008\">doctors<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebalance.com\/attorney-career-information-525987\">lawyers<\/a>, and\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebalance.com\/engineering-careers-526011\">engineers<\/a>\u2014often called the professionals\u2014can lack a sense of professionality in their work.<span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Would anyone even notice if you do not act professionally at work? As long as you do your job well, who cares? Your boss, clients and colleagues will. They will notice if you lack this quality and, if it turns out that you do, it could have severe consequences for your career. It would be a big mistake to play down the importance of professionalism. Pay attention to the clock. If your colleague rejects your offer, do not insist. If you complain incessantly about your workplace, you will bring the morale down. This does not mean that you should not speak up about things you think are wrong. Make sure you do not repeat mistakes.\u00a0 Never blame others.
