5600px) 100vw, 5600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The EU and its member states should step up their efforts to put the European disability strategy commitments fully into practice, urge MEPs in a resolution voted at the European Parliament.<span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The resolution assesses the workings of the Commission\u2019s European Disability Strategy 2010-2020 and lists key actions in its eight priority areas:\u202f accessibility, participation, equality, employment, education and training, social protection, health and external action.<span with disabilities have the right to equal treatment, to live independently and to be full members of society, but in spite of a high number of programmes and laws, they are still not enjoying their rights in full.\u202f<span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Priority measures to be taken by the EU Commission and\/or the member states include:<span data-aria-posinset=\"3\" data-aria-level=\"1\">introducing positive discrimination, like\u202f a quota for persons with disabilities for jobs in the public and private sectors,<span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"2\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"4\" data-aria-level=\"1\">giving special attention to women and girls with disabilities, as they often face double discrimination,<span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"2\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"5\" data-aria-level=\"1\">ensuring that young people with disabilities can take part fully in EU initiatives such as Erasmus+, the Youth Guarantee and European Solidarity Corps, and<span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"2\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\">training for educational staff to support persons with more complex needs.<span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>\u202f<\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Enforcing EU laws\u00a0<\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>MEPs also call on the member states to apply all accessibility-related legislation in full (including\u202fthe audio-visual media services directive, web accessibility directive and transport legislation).
