{"id":7448,"date":"2024-05-16T10:51:20","date_gmt":"2024-05-16T08:51:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/weekly.uhm.org.mt\/?post_type=article&#038;p=7448"},"modified":"2024-05-16T10:52:16","modified_gmt":"2024-05-16T08:52:16","slug":"dibattitu-tal-eurovision-bejn-il-kandidati-ewlenin-ghall-presidenza-tal-kummissjoni","status":"publish","type":"article","link":"http:\/\/weekly.uhm.org.mt\/en\/article\/dibattitu-tal-eurovision-bejn-il-kandidati-ewlenin-ghall-presidenza-tal-kummissjoni\/","title":{"rendered":"Eurovision debate between lead candidates for the Commission presidency"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"http:\/\/weekly.uhm.org.mt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/ep-514-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7445\" srcset=\"http:\/\/weekly.uhm.org.mt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/ep-514-1024x683.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/weekly.uhm.org.mt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/ep-514-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/weekly.uhm.org.mt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/ep-514-768x512.jpg 768w, http:\/\/weekly.uhm.org.mt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/ep-514-480x320.jpg 480w, http:\/\/weekly.uhm.org.mt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/ep-514.jpg 1254w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Eurovision debate between the lead candidates for the Commission presidency will take place on Thursday 23 May from 15.00-16.45 in Parliament\u2019s plenary chamber in Brussels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The debate is organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) in collaboration with the European political parties and the European Parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>EBU has announced the lead candidates for the Commission presidency who have confirmed their presence at the debate on 23 May:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Walter Baier (Austria),&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.european-left.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">European Left<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sandro Gozi (Italy),&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reneweuropenow.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Renew Europe Now<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ursula von der Leyen (Germany),&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.epp.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">European People\u2019s Party (EPP)<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Terry Reintke (Germany),&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/europeangreens.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">European Greens<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nicolas Schmit (Luxembourg),&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pes.eu\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Party of European Socialists (PES)<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The candidates will speak in English, and interpretation will be provided in 24 languages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The debate will be moderated by Martin \u0158ezn\u00ed\u010dek (Czech TV) and Annelies Beck (VRT, Belgium).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The five candidates will debate on several key topics. Questions will be asked by the audience in the plenary chamber, by viewers watching from events organised by Parliament\u2019s Liaison Offices in EU member states, submitted via social media, and by the two moderators. Candidates will also face one-on-one questioning by the moderators in so-called \u201cSpotlight\u201d segments, a new feature in the Eurovision Debate 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Special events to watch the debate live will be organised across the EU by public service media in cooperation with European Parliament Liaison Offices in member states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On 16 May, media are also invited to attend a draw organised by EBU in the European Parliament in Brussels (Agora TV studio, next to 3rd floor VoxBox, Spinelli building, 16.00). The draw will determine the position of the candidates on the stage for the debate, the first speaker on each topic, and the order of the \u2018spotlight\u2019 interviews.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How to follow the Eurovision Debate<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The programme on 23 May will be broadcast on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/audiovisual.ec.europa.eu\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">EbS<\/a>&nbsp;and EBU with the on-screen nametags of the participants and other essential graphic elements. A clean version of the debate will be available on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/audiovisual.ec.europa.eu\/en\/ebs\/live\/2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">EbS+<\/a>&nbsp;but only for news edits, not for full live broadcast. It will also be streamed on Parliament\u2019s website (<a href=\"https:\/\/multimedia.europarl.europa.eu\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Multimedia Centre<\/a>) and accessible from the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebu.ch\/home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">EBU<\/a>&nbsp;distribution platforms. No independent filming of the debate from the chamber will be allowed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Parliament\u2019s Multimedia Centre will also provide a feed with International Sign Language and velotype (live transcript in English), as well as subtitled versions in the official EU languages on demand once the debate is over. These files will be delivered before 19:00 CET.
