The \u20ac718.5 million in aid from the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/regional_policy\/index.cfm\/en\/funding\/solidarity-fund\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">European Union Solidarity Fund (EUSF)<\/a>&nbsp;will be distributed as follows:<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>In relation to the catastrophic floods in July 2021:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>\u20ac612.6 million for Germany<\/li><li>\u20ac87.7 million for Belgium<\/li><li>\u20ac4.7 million for the Netherlands<\/li><li>\u20ac797,520 for Austria<\/li><li>\u20ac1.8 million for Luxembourg<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>In relation to the volcano eruption in La Palma, Spain: \u20ac9.5 million<\/li><li>In relation to the earthquake in Crete, Greece: \u20ac1.4 million.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The aid package was approved by MEPs by 30 votes in favour, no votes against and no abstentions. <a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/?uri=CELEX%3A52022PC0665\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">More information can be found here<\/a>&nbsp;(Commission proposal) and in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\/doceo\/document\/BUDG-PR-737390_EN.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">EP report<\/a>&nbsp;by rapporteur&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\/meps\/en\/197457\/HENRIKE_HAHN\/home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Henrike Hahn<\/a>&nbsp;(Greens\/EFA, DE), who recommends approving the EUSF assistance. The vote in plenary is scheduled for the December session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>Background<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Fund was created as a reaction to the severe floods in Central Europe in the summer of 2002. Since then, it has been used for 100 disasters covering a range of different catastrophic events including floods, forest fires, earthquakes, storms and drought. The Fund also has been mobilised for 20 interventions as a response to public health emergencies. 28 different European countries have been supported so far for an amount of over \u20ac7 billion.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MEPs approved nearly \u20ac720 million in EU Solidarity Fund aid following natural disasters in seven EU countries in 2021.
