sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The European Commission has recently adopted the <a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/ALL\/?uri=COM%3A2021%3A0323%3AFIN\">EU strategic framework on health and safety at work 2021-2027<\/a>, with particular attention to the protection of workers in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The strategic framework updates rules by setting out the key actions needed to improve workers\u2019 health and safety over the coming years and focuses on three key objectives:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li><strong>Anticipating and managing change in the new world of work<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Review of the<a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/?uri=CELEX:01989L0654-20190726\">Workplaces Directive<\/a>&nbsp;and the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/?uri=CELEX:01990L0270-20190726\">Display Screen Equipment Directive<\/a>,&nbsp;update of protective limits on asbestos and lead and, a new initiative that assesses emerging issues related to workers\u2019 mental health and puts forward guidance for action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Improving prevention of work-related diseases and accidents<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Addressing the elimination of work-related deaths in the EU, and updates EU rules on hazardous chemicals to combat cancer, reproductive, and respiratory diseases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Increasing preparedness for possible future health threats<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Development of emergency procedures and guidance for the rapid deployment, implementation and monitoring of measures in potential future health crises, in close cooperation with public-health actors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The update of the EU strategic framework on health and safety at work for 2021-2027 implements principle 10 of the <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/info\/strategy\/priorities-2019-2024\/economy-works-people\/jobs-growth-and-investment\/european-pillar-social-rights\/european-pillar-social-rights-20-principles_en\">European
