Commitment appropriations for 2021 total \u20ac164.3 billion; payment appropriations total \u20ac166.1 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Creating jobs and investing in the EU\u2019s future<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MEPs succeeded in bolstering, on top of the Commission\u2019s budget proposal, programmes they considered key to boosting growth and jobs, reflecting widely agreed European Union priorities, namely Digital Europe (+\u20ac25.7 million) and the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) for transport infrastructure (+\u20ac60.3 million).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Strengthening respect for Europe\u2019s values and boosting climate action<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a supplementary effort to fight climate change, the additions obtained by the EP for the LIFE programme (+\u20ac42 million) aim, from the outset, at contributing to reaching the target of 30% of climate-relevant spending in the EU budget for the 2021-2027 period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Rights and Values programme will receive an additional \u20ac6.6 million, and the European Public Prosecutor&#8217;s Office (EPPO), an independent EU body that fights crimes against the Union budget will benefit from an extra \u20ac7.3 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><br>MFF top-ups: supporting the young, EU research and healthcare<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other reinforcements for 2021 reflect the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/EP_Budgets\/status\/1326217994620588033\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">top-ups to selected key EU programmes<\/a>&nbsp;that Parliament obtained in the deal with Council on the next long-term EU budget (MFF) 2021-2027,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\/news\/en\/press-room\/20201211IPR93621\/parliament-approves-seven-year-eu-budget-2021-2027\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">approved on 16 December<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the case for Erasmus+ (+\u20ac175.1 million), Horizon Europe (research programme, +\u20ac20 million) and the EU4Health programme, the EU\u2019s response to COVID-19, by a further \u20ac74.3 million. EU4Health will support medical and healthcare staff, patients and health systems.
