The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly altered our day-to-day lives. It has laid bare limitations in the way we used to organise ourselves before the pandemic\u2019s outbreak and whilst it has wreaked havoc it has provided us with the opportunity to re-consider previous ways and look forward to a more resilient and sustainable future. Now is the time to act and whilst our health sector and the overall economy have been dented the most, our food systems are not exempt. Europe\u2019s food systems need to be revised. The Farm to Fork Strategy, launched in May of this year, takes into account Greenhouse Gas emissions, the uncontrolled consumption of our natural resources, significant loss of biodiversity (the variety of plant and animal life in the world or in a particular habitat), and the gross negative health impacts on citizens\u2019 lives, both due to under and over nutrition. Adding insult to injury, previously usedpractices do not allow for fair returns (monetary) for all involved actors, namely the primary producers. The Srategy\u2019s objective is to make food systems fair, healthy and environmentally friendly. It will hopefully create new opportunities for a sectorthat has been neglected for too long (on a European level). It will, however, ensure that Europe\u2019s citizens have access to food that is secure, nutritious, and which is produced in a sustainable manner that preserves affordability whilst keeping the EU\u2019s supply sector competitive.More information about the Strategy can be found here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly altered our day-to-day lives.
