Under Article 45 of the Treaty of the Functioning of the European Union<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>freedom of movement of workers shall be secured within the EU<\/span>\u2019s borders<\/span>. Every citizen of the EU has the right to work in another E<\/span>U<\/span>\u00a0Member State and shall not be discriminated on the grounds of nationality.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The EU offers a wide range of opportunities for citizens to work within a multi<\/span>–<\/span>national and multi<\/span>–<\/span>lingual environment.\u00a0<\/span>In fact, the<\/span>\u00a0European Institutions employ more than 40,000 employees from all over the EU. The European Personnel Selection Office (EPSO) is the\u00a0<\/span>main<\/span>\u00a0port of call for citizens who would like to work for the EU.\u00a0<\/span>EPSO\u00a0<\/span>organi<\/span>s<\/span>es<\/span>\u00a0\u201copen<\/span>\u00a0competitions\u201d<\/span>\u00a0to recruit new employees through a series of tasks and assessments that ensure employment of permanent and non-permanent personnel.\u00a0<\/span>Competitions<\/span>\u00a0are held within various staff categories including translation,<\/span>\u00a0project management, policy<\/span>\u00a0and linguistics.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The EU\u00a0<\/span>allows EU citizens to get a glimpse of its work through traineeships, which are specifically targeted for univer<\/span>sity graduate<\/span>s<\/span>. Trainees will be able to develop their professional skills, gain knowledge of the EU\u2019s work and\u00a0<\/span>enhance<\/span>\u00a0personal qualities. Traineeships are offered in a wide<\/span>\u00a0range of areas, from environme<\/span>ntal policy to human resources for a duration of three or five months.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The EU Careers Student Ambassadors scheme is an<\/span>other<\/span>\u00a0opportunity given to\u00a0<\/span>U<\/span>niversity students to promote EU careers<\/span>\u00a0and gain work experience<\/span>. The<\/span>\u00a0principal\u00a0<\/span>role of an\u00a0<\/span>a<\/span>mbassador\u00a0<\/span>is to distribute information about<\/span>\u00a0new opportunities\u00a0<\/span>by acting\u00a0<\/span>as a point of contact for students interested in a future career with the EU.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Applications for EU Careers Student Ambassadors in Malta are now open for students from the University of Malta and MCAST.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Working for the EU\u00a0<\/span>can be viewed as a<\/span>\u00a0challeng<\/span>e.\u00a0<\/span>It means that your contribution will be\u00a0<\/span>influencing<\/span>\u00a0the lives of more than five hundred million European citizens every day.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
