An<\/span>\u00a0analys<\/span>is of<\/span>\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span>population of Malta reveals that it increased by 82,000 people between 2008\u00a0<\/span>and 2018. When one\u00a0<\/span>looks at the increase in population by<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>locality one finds that\u00a0<\/span>localities such as\u00a0<\/span>\u017burrieq, \u017bebbu\u0121, Fgura\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<\/span>Birkirkara<\/span>\u00a0increased by about 900 people<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0while other locations<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0such as St Paul\u2019s Bay<\/span>, Sliema,\u00a0<\/span>St\u00a0<\/span>Julians<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0Bir\u017cebbu\u0121a\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<\/span>Swieqi<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0increased\u00a0<\/span>their population\u00a0<\/span>by much higher numbers.<\/span>\u00a0Over 10 years, the population of\u00a0<\/span>St Paul\u2019s Bay<\/span>\u00a0increased by 12,000 and that of\u00a0<\/span>Sliema<\/span>\u00a0by 8,000 people. The influx of foreigners has led to this phenomenon.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When one looks at the foreigners that are living in Malta, while in 2008 the number of foreign workers was 16,000 \u2013 equivalent to four\u00a0<\/span>percent<\/span>\u00a0of the population \u2013 the number rose to 83,000 in 2018. This is a significant difference.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On a national level<\/span>, Malta is a country that is sought after as a place to live because of its geographical position and a much more pleasant climate than other countries. Our country is also sought after for geopolitical reasons as Malta is a European Union member state, a factor that attracts mobility, and the country is politically stable. Above all, in Malta one does not have to be scared to walk down the street. Our country is also attractive to people who feel that they are part of a minority because they feel that here we have certain freedoms that do not exist in other countries. The fact that the economy is doing well and there are a number of jobs available also attracts foreigners to our country.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The dynamic changes in the population are affecting life<\/span>\u00a0within our localities. A<\/span>\u00a0recent\u00a0<\/span>academic study<\/span>\u00a0revealed that the biggest issue that is worrying Maltese people is the rise in population or, more specifically, the presence of so many foreigners in Malta. Some argue that from an economic perspective, Malta needs more people, particularly in the construction sector and related work, in catering and in the financial services. Having said this, the Maltese people are anxious because the Maltese population is exploding. The study showed that the Maltese are not worried about the nationality and the culture of the foreigners.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Voice of the Workers<\/span><\/i>\u00a0maintains that this reality needs to be addressed and asks whether enough is being done to ensure that these foreign workers are integrated into Maltese society.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
