This is because Europe is geographically close to the Middle East and the two regions both border the Mediterranean Sea.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">T<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">he Director of the<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Mediterranean Academy of Diplomatic Studies<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0(MEDAC)<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Prof. Stephen Calleya<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0told\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Voice of the Workers<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0that the consequences would be felt in each sector. There will be a negative impact on commerce, business and tourism \u2013<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the biggest impact will be o<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">n the economic sector.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">He said that if the situation\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">were to\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">degenerate further, it is not excluded that Europe be asked to participate in the conflict in some way or another. European countries could be asked to provide humanitarian aid. Professor\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Calleya<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0said that by Europe here we mean the European countries that are NATO members not the European Union.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Asked for his reaction to\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">US President Donald Trump\u2019s statement that \u201cthe time has come for Europe to end the nuclear deal it has with Iran\u201d, Professor\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Calleya<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0said that the nuclear deal that was made in 2015 is completely irrelevant. Times have changed and\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the US and Iran had already made\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">certain decisions<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. The geo-strategic situation has evolved in such a way that\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">referring back to\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">that deal<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0would\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">require the<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0protagonists<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0to meet and renegotiate it in a way that ensures that Iran does not obtain arms of mass destruction. The negotiated package would need to be comprehensive and cover other sources of instability, from terrorism to the proliferation of arms, and include economic and diplomatic incentive.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Professor\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Calleya<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0said that if<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Iran were to accept this there would need to be economic support for Iran from the international community, as was the case in the previous deal.\u00a0 Professor\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Calleya<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0added that the important thing was that as a result of\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">each agreement Iran would need to be politically accepted in international relations.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This could not happen overnight.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0 The important thing is that conflict escalation is avoided.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Professor\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Calleya<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">said that he does not agree with the\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Times of Malta<\/span><\/i><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">editorial that s<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">tated that President Trump has \u2018placed the world in danger.\u2019<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">He said that everyone is entitled to<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">defend their interests and the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">blamegame<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0does not solve anything in international relations as there will always be yet another incident which one country blames another for.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Professor\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Calleya<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0went on to say that the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">blamegame<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0and justification of actions will not<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0solve anything.
