The voice<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0of the demonstrators\u00a0<\/span>have never echoed along the roads of Valletta as much as they have in the last few weeks, with protests in the capital city being organised almost daily.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Thousands of people accepted the invitations of Occupy Justice,\u00a0<\/span>Repubblika<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>manueldelia.com<\/span>\u00a0and thronged the square outside Parliament as well as the roads in Valletta calling for the immediate resignation of the Prime Minister and for all those involved in the\u00a0<\/span>assassination of\u00a0<\/span>Daphne Caruana\u00a0Galizia<\/span>\u00a0to<\/span>\u00a0be brought to justice.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

These e<\/span>pisodes have rekindled civil society activism. This implies progress in the concept of justice in society.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

All those\u00a0<\/span>of<\/span>\u00a0good will<\/span>\u00a0in this country want to do something to strengthen society, but few are those who are challenging the precarious state we are in and who are leading an active campaign to clear Malta from the ugly stain of corruption. The persons who are leading this crusade to ensure that the criminals who\u00a0<\/span>killed\u00a0<\/span>Daphne Caruana\u00a0Galizia<\/span>\u00a0get what<\/span>\u00a0they deserve are an inspiration to thousands of Maltese. We are lucky to have these few educated and talented activists among us.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But what is activism? Activism encourages\u00a0counter-argument<\/span>s\u00a0and vociferous voices while it presents a democratic way of solving situations of conflict.<\/span>\u00a0Activism is an important tool to use to advance public education and decision making. Activism shakes up the status quo and the protests that have been organised are working.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Activism\u00a0<\/span>should\u00a0<\/span>exist in all spheres of life especially in a country like ours where individuals and institutions are corrupt, have made big mistakes and have not done their duty in terms of what is right and just. Unfortunately, these abominable acts were and remain omnipotent in our country. It is good for Malta to have people who are not scared of the scandals and turmoil that have engulfed it. These people are the activists that our country needs.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The ex- American\u00a0<\/span>President Abraham\u00a0Lincoln\u00a0<\/span>reminds us that<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>To<\/span><\/i>\u00a0sin\u00a0by\u00a0silence\u00a0when\u00a0they\u00a0should\u00a0protest,\u00a0makes\u00a0cowards\u00a0of\u00a0men.<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
