Here we are talking about brain drain\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">that results<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0from the ever growing competition for talent that exists in countries that cannot offer sufficient incentives to qualified workers to entice them to stay.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Hundreds of workers had to leave Malta because they could not find work that\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">matched their qualifications, especially when the conditions they were offered in Malta were low in comparison with the conditions they were offered in other countries.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">When you live\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">abroad you meet people with different ideas and cultures and you start to appreciate where you come from while also accepting the fact that the world comprises different perspectives.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The European Union, for example, presents<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0great<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0opportunities for<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0those who have initiative and ideas and many are finding that studying and working abroad widens their horizons.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Ironically, the biggest\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">disadvantage for Malta is that many valid people are exploiting new possibilities and are leaving the country. These are persons with initiative, so those with potential who could make a contribution to the country are leaving. Youths with degrees in medicine, literature, administration,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the legal sector, sciences and other sectors are finding better economic conditions in other member states.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The Government was constrained to import foreign workers to fill the void left by qualified Maltese workers\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">who went to work abroad and also to find people to do the jobs the Maltese do not want to do.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Having said this, one day those workers who left to work in Europe w<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ill one day return to Malta and contribute to its development. Other countries\u2019 experience has shown that many do not leave for good. There are those who marry a Belgian woman or German man and never come back, but leaving Malta to go and work in Europe is not like leaving for Australia or Canada. Today travelling is easy.
