\u00a0\u201cThe authorities need to do their job in this country\u201d.<\/span>\u00a0This was the reaction of Manuel Delia, blogger and activist within the organisation\u00a0<\/span>Repubblika<\/span>, one of the organisers of the\u00a0protest against\u00a0corruption held in Valletta on Saturday 16 November 2019.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Manuel Delia\u00a0<\/span>explained\u00a0<\/span>Repubblika\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0vision to<\/span>\u00a0Voice of the Workers<\/span><\/i>, saying that in Malta \u201cwe want to see the rule of law reign supreme once again, we want to see the law being upheld above all else.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Three years ago,\u00a0<\/span>Daphne Caruana\u00a0Galizia\u00a0<\/span>exposed<\/span>\u00a0Keith Schembri, Konrad Mizzi<\/span>\u00a0and the companies they held. They denied that they had companies in Panama. Two months later the Panama Papers were released that confirmed the allegation. Irrespective of this, Keith\u00a0<\/span>Schembri<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>Konrad<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Mizzi<\/span>\u00a0stayed put.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In a libel suit that he himself\u00a0had institu<\/span>t<\/span>ed,\u00a0Keith Schembri failed to justify himself in Court. \u201cAt what stage does the Police \u2018fall out of bed\u2019 to confirm that action needs to be\u00a0<\/span>taken?,<\/span>\u00a0questioned the blogger.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Manuel Delia said that\u00a0<\/span>with the protests that took place<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>recently,\u00a0<\/span>the organisers were not marking a victory but were solely expressing what they have been saying every month in the last two years.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The protest on Saturday, the 16 of November 2019 was the 25<\/span>th<\/span>\u00a0protest to mark, every month, the killing of journalist\u00a0<\/span>Daphne Caruana\u00a0Galizia<\/span>\u00a0\u2013 the<\/span>\u00a0journalist who exposed the goings on of Keith\u00a0<\/span>Schembri<\/span>\u00a0and other top people within the Government.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Repubblika will continue to push for the truth to be revealed and justice to be done and will carry on doing this\u00a0<\/span>as long as<\/span>\u00a0necessary.<\/span>\u00a0In fact, the arrest of Yorgen Fenech, who owns the company 17 Black that has links with Auberge de Castille particularly with the Chief of Staff Keith Schembri, Repubblika acted again and called another protest on the 20<\/span>th<\/span>\u00a0instant.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Manuel Delia, together with the organisers of the protest, is satisfied with the presence of hundreds of people who responded to\u00a0<\/span>Repubblika\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0call to join\u00a0<\/span>both<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>protests.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

These people exhibited the same anger that the followers of Repubblika feel. We have known as a fact that Keith Schembri has done something wrong for three years. Last week Keith Schembri was unable to defend himself on the witness stand during a libel suit he himself instigated.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Keith Schembri needs to take responsibility. He needs to remove himself and give himself up to criminal investigation. The Prime Minister should stop protecting him.\u00a0<\/span>This is why<\/span>\u00a0so many people turned up to protest\u00a0<\/span>on the 16<\/span>th<\/span>\u00a0and on the 20<\/span>th<\/span>\u00a0of November.<\/span>\u00a0Following Yorgen Fenech\u2019s arrest, the Prim<\/span>e<\/span>\u00a0Minister\u00a0has to\u00a0act even more.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The truth is that this anger is not being felt only by those who joined the protest. Government has responsibilities, independently of how many people there were protesting in the streets. Right and reason do not need force.\u00a0 Right and reason emerge from evidence and the evidence is irrefutable\u00a0<\/span>because Keith\u00a0<\/span>Schembri<\/span>\u00a0and Conrad\u00a0<\/span>Mizzi<\/span>\u00a0set up companies in Panama to receive bribes.<\/span>\u00a0This should have\u00a0consequences\u00a0or our country will be taken over by delinquents.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
