Negotiations are currently underway as the EU looks to decide upon its upcoming budget for the 2021-2027 period.\u00a0<\/span>The current proposals look to establish an EU budget which\u00a0<\/span>reflects rapid developments in innovation, the economy<\/span>\u00a0and<\/span>\u00a0the environment<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The EU budget, formally known as the Multiannual Financial Framework<\/span>\u00a0(MFF)<\/span>, is the way in which the EU funds its activities and operations. It is the main instrument through which Member States and their citizens access EU funding opportunities.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For the next MFF, current proposals look to focus on a variety of areas, particularly on the issue of migration and border management, the environment, as well as continuous innovation in the digital single market.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Current negotiations are not without their challenges, as the current status of the United Kingdom as a Member State make<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0it difficult for Member States to decide on the total allocation of resources and how such resources would be divided on the different priority areas.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Negotiations are expected to conclude in 2020, depending heavily on whether the UK would be able to withdraw from the EU by January 31, 2020.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
