As massive advancements in technology and communication continue to shape the world around us, such innovations are also transforming the place of work and the very nature of our everyday lives. One noteworthy issue which has been given prominence over recent months has been whether employers and employees should be able to switch off\u00a0<\/span>from any working engagement<\/span>\u00a0once they leave their place of work.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On October 28, 2019 MEUSAC organised a half-day conference on this subject, with the objective of starting a discussion on th<\/span>e matter\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<\/span>gather<\/span>\u00a0feedback\u00a0<\/span>from<\/span>\u00a0various stakeholders.\u00a0<\/span>It was a varied discussion, ranging from issues related to the individual\u2019s mental wellbeing, to the more intricate details of achieving a proper work-life balance.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ultimately, blurry divisions between the personal and professional lives of individuals can have adverse effects on their mental health, leading to burnout and decreased productivity at work. In fact, according to a\u00a0<\/span>joint report<\/span><\/a>\u00a0by the EU and OECD, decreased productivity is costing Malta around \u20ac400 million annually.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
