In case you<\/span>\u00a0have not yet noticed,\u00a0<\/span>the teaching profession is in crisis.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Various<\/span>\u00a0challenges are\u00a0<\/span>being faced by\u00a0<\/span>t<\/span>he<\/span>\u00a0professionals who are\u00a0<\/span>daily<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>charged\u00a0<\/span>with\u00a0<\/span>making\u00a0<\/span>a positive impact on children\u2019s lives \u2013 the teachers in our schools.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In my opinion,\u00a0<\/span>teaching<\/span>\u00a0is one of the noble professions.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Without teaching at every level, other professions cannot exist. As they say, education is the key to everything in life. This puts teachers at the forefront of shaping minds to create more practical people, thinkers, artists, leaders and entrepreneurs. If ever there was a profession that should be respected<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0as much as a doctor is respected for saving lives, it should be the teaching profession.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Unfortunately, however, some teachers, irrespectiv<\/span>e of whether they work in state<\/span>, church or private schools, have realised\u00a0<\/span>that four years of University study and years of dedicated work with our children have not brought\u00a0<\/span>them\u00a0<\/span>the respect that they deserve.\u00a0 Some say that they are stressed because\u00a0<\/span>of their lesson<\/span>\u00a0load and others because they\u00a0<\/span>are<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>tired of\u00a0<\/span>deal<\/span>ing<\/span>\u00a0with arrogant students in class. Other<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0will tell you that their salary is not adequate and when they come across other jobs that offer better conditions and double their present salary they leave the profession.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

At the moment, in our country, there is\u00a0<\/span>a bad vibe<\/span>\u00a0among teachers. Government, in the last few weeks, has said that the number of teachers has decreased and that it is becoming so difficult\u00a0<\/span>to find an adequate number of teachers to place in<\/span>\u00a0schools that the government is considering engaging foreign teachers.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Government would do well to find ways to better\u00a0<\/span>the conditions of the current teachers or the crisis will turn into a catastrophe. Teachers\u2019 salaries need to be increased to reflect the invaluable work that they are doing with our children.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>There<\/span>\u00a0should\u00a0<\/span>also\u00a0<\/span>be\u00a0<\/span>more<\/span>\u00a0equality within the sector. Why shouldn\u2019t teachers in Primary and Secondary schools have\u00a0<\/span>similar salaries<\/span>\u00a0when one considers the amount of work that they do?<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Educators provide society with the necessary skills, prepare us for our careers and\u00a0<\/span>instill<\/span>\u00a0us\u00a0<\/span>with\u00a0<\/span>moral and democratic values. They, therefore, deserve respect, not only\u00a0<\/span>for their professional vocation but also in terms of their working conditions and financial income.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
