data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">reason<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">s\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">why<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0a no-deal<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Brexit has\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">been\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">caus<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ing<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0evident concern on<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">both the UK and the EU<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u2019s side<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0is<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0attributed\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">to\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the trade set-backs and implications this will entail.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">If the UK leaves the EU with<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">out a<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0deal,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0which is\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">so far\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">proving to be the most likely<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0scenario<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, all trade arrangements including tariff-free access\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">between the<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0UK and the EU\u2019s markets will be lost.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/researchbriefings.parliament.uk\/ResearchBriefing\/Summary\/CBP-7851\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Looking<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0at\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">201<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">8\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">figures<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, the<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0EU remains the<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0UK<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u2019s most important trading partner; in fact<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">46% of total UK exports are to the EU and<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0the UK<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0import<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">s<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a054% of all its imports from the EU.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This makes sense not only because the UK is still (so far) an EU Member State, but also because of the EU\u2019s importance in international trade.\u00a0 The\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/statistics-explained\/index.php\/National_accounts_and_GDP#Developments_for_GDP_in_the_EU-28:_growth_since_2013\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">EU\u2019s GDP<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">accounts to\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">above\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u20ac15 trillio<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">n<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">establishing it as one of\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the top three\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">players in\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">international trade<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0with<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0a share of<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a015.6\u202f%\u202f<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">of exports and imports worldwide.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">This makes the EU not only attractive but as such almost\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">inevitable<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0to trade with.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">In fact, thanks to its economic and trade power<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0as a bloc\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">of 28 Member States<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">the EU has managed<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0to<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0negotiate approximately 40 free trade agreements which include more than 70 countries world-wide.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">The EU\u2019s trade policy goes beyond the elimination of trade barriers such as quotas and tariffs when trading with other countries.\u00a0 Thanks to the trade agreements the EU has established, there has been increased trading opportunities for European business and enterprises to export their products and services outside the EU.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0Increased trade through free trade agreements\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">supports economic growth as well as employment, with recent statistics showing that\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">EU exports support\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\/news\/en\/headlines\/economy\/20190528STO53303\/making-the-most-of-globalisation-eu-trade-policy-explained#targetText=It%20is%20essential%20for%20the,more%20than%2013%2C000%20EU%20jobs.\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">36 million jobs\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">across the EU<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0Free trade agreements also make sure that i<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">mports<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0coming to the EU adhere to the right safety, social and environmental standards.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Therefore, in\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">this context, a no deal Brexit is certainly not a preferred outcom<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">e<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, especially in the kind of\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">economic globalised world<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0we live in today where the EU emerges as one of the top players.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">There will be clear impacts, the extent to which will<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0be evident<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0in the coming months and years.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span
