This is because they may not know the full extent of the risks they might be fa<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ced with at the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">place of work<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. It also specifies\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">types of employment which must not\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">be carried out by young people, such as\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">work which exceeds their mental or physical capacities and work involving harmful exposure to dangerous substances.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">In addition, t<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">here are also provisions on working hours, night work, rest periods, annual leave and rest breaks.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:200,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The Directive<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u202f<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">on the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">protection of young people at work<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0is a clear concrete example on how the EU seeks to protect its citizens, especially those considered to be vulnerable and lack the skills and resources to defend themselves.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:200,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Entering the world of work for the first time, young people\u00a0(under18 years)\u00a0may lack experience and are often found to lack both physical and psychological maturity.
