The European Commission will be running the European Union under new management. What will the mandate of this new Commission be? Which priorities will the new European Parliament\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">be<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0working on? What will the future of the European Union be?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">One must keep in mind that,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0until recently, this regional institution was threatened by expired intellectual ideas. Commentators on European affairs note that no implementable<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0idea, not the slightest\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">strategy<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0idea was put forward by the so-called \u2018European elitists\u2019 through their think tanks and academic circles.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">As a\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">consequence, say these commentators, \u201cthe Western intelligence has lost its foundation\u201d.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Also worth remem<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">b<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">e<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ring<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">is\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">that the French President Macron was elected on his\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">vision of<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0a regenerated Europe.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0consensus was that Europe can adapt to the 21<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">st<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Century if it changed its outlook and radically restructured its institutions.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">For many years<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, European institutions were burdened with\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">a range of responsibilities in a number of sectors but did not have the power, finances and technical capacity to manage them effectively.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Therefore<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, what can<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">EU<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, now under new management,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">do to become more relevant and, ultimately, to survive? I believe that if it is to gain the trust of its citizens, European technocrats cannot remain content working simply for the interests of the Union. The European Union must find a balance between the freedoms it provides and the protection it offers. An adequate strategy needs to be put in place on how Europe\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">i<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">s to adapt; a strategy that will keep it from becoming obsolete.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The regularisation of digital platforms, the strengthening of cultural exchanges\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">such as Erasmus, the priority that needs to be given to climate change, the search for better solutions to immigration, the transition from\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">fossil fuel energy<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0to renewable energy and a strengthening\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">of democracy: these are likely to be the most suitable sectors for the regeneration of the European project.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; The European Parliament elections have come and gone and the results are what they are.\u00a0Two new Members of the European Parliament will be joining the established ones.
