May 1, 2019<\/span>\u00a0marks the<\/span>\u00a015 year anniversary of\u00a0<\/span>Malta\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>EU accession. Needless to say that during this time, EU accession visibly and tangibly changed Malta in a variety of ways<\/span>, including in the employment sector.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In a bid to invest in\u00a0<\/span>education,\u00a0<\/span>training systems and workforce skills to meet the changi<\/span>ng demands of the labour market,\u00a0<\/span>Malta benefit<\/span>ed from various EU funding opportunities such as the\u00a0<\/span>European Social Fund<\/span><\/a>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Furthermore, through their day-to-day meetings with other\u00a0<\/span>m<\/span>inistries and officials from o<\/span>ther EU Member States, Maltese g<\/span>overnment representatives have helped create and implement a vast array of\u00a0<\/span>labour laws<\/span><\/a>\u00a0which mainly\u00a0<\/span>revolve<\/span>\u00a0around two aspects: wo<\/span>rking conditions and informing,\u00a0<\/span>consulting workers.<\/span>\u00a0These regulations and directives have\u00a0<\/span>shaped<\/span>\u00a0the current scenario in the l<\/span>ocal and European labour market<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Additionally, Malta has<\/span>\u00a0and is supporting<\/span>\u00a0initiatives such as the\u00a0<\/span>Europe 2020 Strategy<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<\/span>European Pillar of Social Rights<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>both\u00a0<\/span>aiming to<\/span>\u00a0improve employability, employment rates and\u00a0<\/span>job security.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Whil<\/span>e<\/span>\u00a0reflecting on Malta\u2019s participation in the field of employment within the context of its 15 year accession anniversary, one must also look towards the future in order to keep ensuring that access to the labour market is open to everyone and safe for all Maltese and EU citizens.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
