The<\/span>\u00a0European Parliament elections<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>are\u00a0<\/span>less than\u00a0<\/span>two<\/span>\u00a0months away<\/span>. In<\/span>\u00a0these elections, citizens will\u00a0<\/span>be asked to cast their vote to\u00a0<\/span>elect new Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) who will ultimately be representing their interests<\/span>\u00a0in one of the main institutions of the EU<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The upcoming election<\/span>s, to be held\u00a0<\/span>across the<\/span>\u00a0EU between the 23<\/span>rd<\/span>\u00a0and 26<\/span>th<\/span>\u00a0May (25<\/span>th<\/span>\u00a0May in Malta),\u00a0<\/span>will be the first to be held following the departur<\/span>e of a Member State from the EU;\u00a0<\/span>the planned date for Brexit is March\u00a0<\/span>29<\/span>, 2019, and as a result the\u00a0<\/span>number of parliamentarians<\/span>\u00a0will\u00a0<\/span>reduce<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>from 751 to 705 for the next five years.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n In the run-up to these important elections, citizens are being encouraged<\/span>\u00a0to<\/span>\u00a0not only exercise their democratic right to vote, but also to make an informed choice by being aware what they are voting for.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n This is what the campaign\u00a0<\/span>thistimeimvoting.eu<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>spearheaded by the European Parliament is all about.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>The campaign<\/span>\u00a0calls on European cit<\/span>izens to spread the word among<\/span>\u00a0communities at a local and national level on the importance of\u00a0<\/span>knowing\u00a0<\/span>about various\u00a0<\/span>events and activities<\/span><\/a>\u00a0that are taking place in their respective country and also across Europe.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
