It is undeniable that\u00a0<\/span>BREXIT will have a signi<\/span>ficant effect on the next Multi<\/span>annual Financial Framework (MFF)\u00a0<\/span>which will cover<\/span>\u00a0the period 2021-2027.<\/span>\u00a0The EU budget will largely be a<\/span>ffected as a result of the loss of the UK contribution which was around \u20ac10 billion.\u00a0<\/span>In case of\u00a0<\/span>a no deal BREXIT there will be a significant gap in the EU budget also in the current funding period with this hole es<\/span>timated to be that of\u00a0<\/span>around\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0\u20ac<\/span>14 billion. For Malta this would mean an increase in our net contribution of about \u20ac6 million annually.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

To combat this within the withdrawal agreement both the EU and UK have negotiated a financial settlement which will cover the UK\u2019s financial obligations under the current financial framework.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>If th<\/span>e UK agrees to this settlement\u00a0<\/span>and<\/span>\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span>subsequent withdrawal agreement it<\/span>\u00a0would guarantee that all EU projects and programmes will be financed as planned under the current MFF, providing certainty to all EU and UK bene<\/span>ficiaries.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>As a result, this would necessitate the need for increased contributions by member states to cover the current needs of the EU budget.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
