Citizens of the European Union go to the polls between 23 and 26 May, 2019 to elect the new European\u00a0Parliament. Maltese citizens will be able to vote on Saturday, May 25, 2019.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The upcoming elections\u00a0will be the first to be held following the departure of a Member State from the EU \u2013 the planned date for Brexit is March 30, 2019,\u00a0and as a result the Parliament will become smaller \u2013 the number of members for 2019-2024 is to be reduced from 751 to 705.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to a change in\u00a0parliamentary seats, observers also expect a more fragmented Parliament, given the trend of declining electoral support for ‘traditional’ political parties and the surge of new political forces at both ends of the political spectrum.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Every European citizen is urged to first register one\u2019s interest to vote on the European Parliament official campaign\u00a0portal\u00a0thistimeimvoting.eu<\/a>, and secondly use the\u00a0tools<\/a>\u00a0available to be\u00a0well\u00a0informed before making\u00a0a\u00a0decision.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
