This assessment should explain why alternative measures have proved to be insufficient and how border checks would help to address the identified threat.\u00a0Neighbouring\u00a0EU countries affected by the possible border checks should be involved in the risk assessment.<span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559738&quot;:240,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, any subsequent extension of border checks beyond six months would require an opinion from the Commission and should be\u00a0authorised\u00a0by the EU Council of Ministers.
