Its main aim is to <\/span><span class=\"s4\">improve the functioning of the internal market for accessible products and services by removing barriers created by <\/span><span class=\"s4\">certain laws and regulations<\/span><span class=\"s4\">.<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> It contains benefits for both businesses, and for persons <\/span><span class=\"s4\">with a<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> disabilit<\/span><span class=\"s4\">y.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s6\"><span class=\"s4\">Businesses will be benefitting from easier cross-border trading and more marketing opportunities for accessible products and services. Meanwhile, persons with disabilities shall be enjoying a greater share of accessible products and services on the market, at competitive prices. The Act also looks <\/span><span class=\"s4\">at<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> decreas<\/span><span class=\"s4\">ing<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> barriers related to educational accessibility and the open labour market.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s6\"><span class=\"s4\">Currently, there are more <\/span><span class=\"s4\">than 80 million people in the EU <\/span><span class=\"s4\">with a<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> disability<\/span><span class=\"s4\">. Sound accessibility is necessary to ensure that everyone can have an active role in society, and it also contributes to ensure smart, sustainable and inclusive growth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s6\"><span class=\"s4\">The European Accessibility Act also looks to ensure that all current European legislation on accessibility is in line with the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/social\/main.jsp?catId=1138&amp;langId=en\"><span class=\"s5\">United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities<\/span><\/a><span class=\"s4\">.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A provisional agreement has been reached between the European Parliament and the Council of the EU on the proposal for a European Accessibility Act.
