The EU Citizens\u2019 Consultations are an initiative\u00a0of the EU27\u00a0aimed at bringing together citizens from all walks of life to debate important\u00a0topics\u00a0concerning the future of the European Union.\u00a0<\/b>The\u00a0consultations\u00a0will provide\u00a0an opportunity for citizens to engage in\u00a0an exercise of\u00a0participatory democracy in shaping the position of the EU on various subjects.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Joint Framework\u00a0adopted by the EU27\u00a0lays out that the consultations are intended to be a tangible means of identifying concerns, ideas and political priorities for action \u2013 with a consultative character, but not as a mandate for legislation \u2013 at European level.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The process is open\u00a0to\u00a0all EU citizens, based on the principles of transparency, pluralism, fairness and non-discrimination. The events being organised will be public events, and all EU citizens are\u00a0encouraged\u00a0to participate.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Originally proposed by French President\u00a0Emmanuel Macron<\/a>,\u00a0the Citizens\u2019 Consultations\u00a0will be held across 27 EU Member States, with the exception of the United\u00a0Kingdom. MEUSAC is the national focal point in Malta and will be\u00a0the\u00a0events\u00a0to be held in\u00a0Malta\u00a0and\u00a0Gozo\u00a0over the coming weeks and months. This is\u00a0in line with\u00a0one of the functions of MEUSAC: that of\u00a0stimulating\u00a0and leading\u00a0a national debate on European ideals, values, objectives and long-term strategies.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
