MEPs adopted\u202f<a href=\"http:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\/news\/en\/press-room\/20180309IPR99420\/funding-europe-s-future-eu-s-post-2020-budget-must-match-policy-goals\">Parliament&#8217;s position<\/a>\u202f that among other things wants to change how the EU is funded, paving the way for a system where the EU has more of its own resources and moves away from being almost exclusively dependent on the contribution it receives from EU countries.<span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559731&quot;:180,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Belgian ALDE member\u202f<a href=\"http:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\/meps\/en\/1473\/GERARD_DEPREZ_home.html\">G\u00e9rard\u00a0Deprez<\/a>, one of the lead MEPs dealing with the revenue side of the budget, said:\u202f \u201cWe as the Parliament said that we will not accept a new [long-term budget] without own resources.\u202fWe are determined.\u201d\u202f<span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559731&quot;:180,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Together with Polish EPP member\u202fJanusz\u00a0Lewandowski,\u00a0Deprez\u00a0has written a\u202f<a href=\"http:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\/sides\/getDoc.do?pubRef=-%2f%2fEP%2f%2fNONSGML%2bCOMPARL%2bPE-616.543%2b01%2bDOC%2bPDF%2bV0%2f%2fEN\">report on own resources<\/a>, which is part of Parliament&#8217;s position on the next long-term budget, also known as multi-annual financial framework. The report proposes new sources of revenue for the EU,\u202fincluding\u202fa corporate income tax, environmental taxes, a financial transaction tax at the European level, a special taxation of companies in the digital sector, and a reform of the VAT system.\u202f<span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559731&quot;:180,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Deprez\u202fsaid\u202fthe main reason for Parliament\u2019s firm position on\u202fhaving\u202fown resources is one of the original treaties that\u00a0laide\u00a0the basis for the EU.
