The European Commission has put forward proposals to ensure social fairness in two\u00a0particular areas: free movement of workers from one European country to another, and; effective access to social protection for workers in new forms of work and for self-employed people.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The European Commission\u00a0is\u00a0proposing\u00a0to do this through the creation of a\u00a0European Labour Authority<\/a>\u00a0(ELA) that shall help inform citizens and businesses on employment and training opportunities\u00a0whilst\u00a0supporting\u00a0the cooperation and coordination between national authorities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The European Commission is also aiming\u00a0to close the legal gaps of social security systems of those people who perform non-standard forms of work – currently standing at 40% of the total employed population \u2013 as well as\u00a0cover effectively those entitled by national law, and facilitate transfer of social security entitlements.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n These two proposals are in line with the\u00a0European Pillar of Social Rights<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0form\u00a0part of the Social Fairness package.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n In order\u00a0to implement the European Pillar of Social Rights, a\u00a0specific\u00a0Social Scoreboard<\/a>\u00a0will also be used\u00a0to track trends and performances across EU Member States on equal opportunities and access to the labour market; fair working conditions; and social protection and inclusion.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n To read the news item in full, click\u00a0here<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
